Let's be honest, everyone struggles with breakouts at some point in their life, whether it's hormonal, stress-related, or you simply forgot to wash your make up off after a night out. Those come and go and we learn how to deal with the pesky little pimples. Acne, however, is a whole another story. Those who suffer from acne know what I mean. Waking up every morning with new zits, picking at them hoping to make them go away faster, causing even more problems than you started out with, layering on foundation hoping that it will cover the redness and avoiding going out because of how bad your skin looks that day.
I've been through it all.
I'm a chronic picker, I'll admit to that. I make my face look a million times worse by trying to extract every clogged pore I can find. That leads to scarring, and me freaking out.
I used to try every topical product I could find on the market to clear my acne, I've been on the pill, I've used Proactiv, I've done masks and serums, you name it, I've probably tried it. From expensive creams to aloe vera, the range of my experiments is wide. I have eventually found products that keep my acne at bay, but what I decided to give a try is supplements. To heal my skin from the inside.
After doing tons of research, and trial and error, I decided to incorporate a few supplements into my diet for a month in order to see how it will affect my skin, and to be quite honest, I didn't expect such good results from a couple of pills.
I have recently gotten off a very restricted no sugar diet, also in search of clearing my acne, and was binge-ing ice cream, sweets, coffee, alcohol, anything that I wasn't allowed to have for nearly 4 months, trust me I HAD IT ALL.
The only thing I kept doing was taking those supplements I am about to mention and my skin has never looked better. At least for as long as I can remember.
Before I hold you up any longer I will name the 3 supplements I have been taking, and am still taking to this day. Those are:
- Probiotics
- Zinc
- Fish Oil
The ones that I used are shown below:
I have also experimented with adding turmeric, and that worked great, but after running out of it, I have not repurchased a new one and my skin did not suffer. I think a combination of the three of those has really improved my skin quality, along with my consistent skincare routine that I've lacked my entire life. I have yet to find photos of my skin looking terrible because I simply deleted them all, but I will insert a photo of what my skin looks like now, and to be honest I am more than happy with it.
Aside from a few scars my skin is pretty clear now, and I plan on attempting to keep it that way. I highly recommend those supplements to anyone that is suffering from acne. If you'd like to do some more research about them, I just used Dr. Axe and his website for more information. There is tons of articles about how most people are Zinc deficient, and how Fish Oil reduces inflammation in the body which reduces breakouts and helps control hormones.
